The Remote Access Concentrator must havea nI nternet(IP) address in
its memory before it can load its operational image across the Ethernet
via the IP protocol. Therefore, you mustenter the IP address before
bootingthe Remote Access Concentrator from a UNIX load host. If you
do not define a subnet mask, the R emoteA ccessConcentrator uses the
generic mask for the specifiedIP address.
Thesubnet mask m ust bese t correctlyfor the network you are
using or erraticope rationwill result (boot failure or ICMP
"redirect"storms are likelyresults).
The Remote Access Concentrator triesto boot from a preferred UNIX
load host.If you do not define a preferred load host, the Remote Access
Concentratorbroadcasts its load request and loads software from the first
host that responds.
If the part of the IPa ddresscontaining the network or subnet address
differsfrom thatof the preferred load or dump host, the host must be
reachedthrough a gateway (or router). The addr command prompts you
forthis gateway’s IP address.
The Remote Access Concentra tor uses the broadcast address param eter
when loading a file.I fthis parameter contains a specific address (for
example,132.245.6.255), the Remote AccessConcentrator uses only that
addressfor broadcast. If thevalue isall zeroes(0.0.0.0),the ROM Monitor
triesvarious combinations of broadcast addresses and subnet or network
broadcasts. The Remote Access Concentrator broadcasts itsrequest three
times for each possible combination of broadcast addresses.
