Preparing for a Hot Swap
The Remote Access Concentrator can be inserted intoor removedfrom
achassis without interrupting service to other modules withinthe System
5000 hub. This a bilityis referred to as “hot swapping.”
The Remote Access Concentrator holds64KB of configuration
informationin EEPROM. This informationis periodically sent to thehost
server to be savedin a file. During a hot swap, the new Remote Access
Concentrator reads in this fileat boot time and overwritesits EEPROM
withthe configurationinformation from the Remote Access Concentrator
it is replacing. The new Remote Access Concentrator then functions as
theprevious Remote Access Concentrator, exceptfor the LAT key, which
needs to be reprogrammed.
Ifno EEPROM overwrite is desired when hot swapping, select
defaultvalues for that slot from the supervisory module on the
serviceport terminal.
