The remote controller supplied with the TX-DS656 can learn functions available with other compo- nent's remote controllers.

The control codes for Onkyo cassette tape decks and CD players are already available with the supplied remote controller.

This indicator lights when the remote controller is transmitting a control command or learning other controller's functions. If the indicator does not light, replace the batteries.

A/B-SUBROOM/LEARN switch

A:Select this position to use the remote controller in the main

room.

B-SUBROOM:Select this position to use the remote controller in the sub-room.

PROGRAMMABLE AREA TV/VIDEO buttons

Use these buttons to have the supplied remote controller learn another remote controller's function.

For TV: Power ON/OFF (POWER) and Channel selection (aCHs).

For VDP: Power ON/OFF (POWER), Playback (s), and Stop (e)

For VCR: Playback (s), Stop (e), Rewind (d), and Fast Forward (f)

Learning new control codes

1.Set the A/B-SUBROOM/LEARN selector switch to LEARN.

2.Place the head of your existing remote controller 2-4 inches (5-10 cm) from the head of this remote controller, laying both units on a table or another flat surface.

3.Press a button in the PROGRAMMABLE AREA of this remote controller to which you want to transfer the code.

The SENDING/LEARNED indicator lights.

4.Hold down the button for the function you want to transfer on the other remote controller until the SENDING/LEARNED indicator turns off.

5.Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all the required function are trans- ferred to the supplied remote controller.

6.Set the A/B-SUB ROOM/LEARN selector switch back to A.

Note:

Some remote controllers use a single button to change codes, with the code changing each time the button is pressed. If you are using this type of controller, perform "learn" operations for each function individually, one function to one button on this remote controller.

This remote controller transmits codes using infrared rays and can memorize the codes of other remote controllers that also use an infrared system; however,

depending on the system, there may be some rare occasions when memoriza- tion is not possible.

Changing the learned commands

Perform the whole procedure described in "Learning new control codes". The existing commands on the supplied remote controller are replaced with the newly learned commands.

To erase all the learned commands

1.Set the A/B-SUB ROOM/LEARN selector switch to LEARN.

2.While pressing the POWER button, hold down the VOLUME u button until the SENDING/LEARNED indicator turns off. All the commands stored in programmable area have been erased.
