Operating Instructions
2-20 1705A Spectrum Monitor
systems are single polarization receiv e to avoid the possibility of nulling the
wrong polarization. If the antenna is set up to receive more than one
polarization, be sure that the feed polarization b eing observed is associated
with the transponder that will be used for the transmission.
10. Before transmitting, the satelliteoperator will need to be contacted. The
operatorwill want a transmit signal to be brought up to verify correct
transponder, signal polarization, and to determine the correct operating
power. If the antenna and transmitting system are correctly adjusted, this
check will only takeseconds. This check may be permittedearlier in the
day,if time is available and the antenna or transmitter setting are not to be
changed.
11. During transmit, the 1705A may be used to verify thepresence of video,
audio, and any communicationssignals at the 70 MHz output of the Video
Exciter. This signal may be permanently connected to the 1705A, along with
the L--Bandreceive connection, to allow front-panel selection. Witheither
input, narrowerspans may be selected to permit observing discrete signals.
12. Be sure that there is an agreedupon good nightfor the transmission. The
carrierwill not be watching your program content, and must know clearly
when you arefinished with the satellite. Unless there is aspecific agree-
ment, the carrierwill expect a telephone call to know you are clear, and you
will be charged.
