Maintenance
1705A Spectrum Monitor 6-3
Observe the following precautions to avoi d damage:
1. Minimize handling of static-sensitivecomponents.
2. Transportand store static-sensitive components or assemblies in their
original containers,on a metal rail, or on conductive foam. Label any
packagethat contains static-sensitive components or assemblies.
3. Dischargethe static voltage from your body, by wearing a wrist grounding
strap, while handling these components. Servicingstatic-sensitive assem-
blies or components should be done only at a static-free work station by
qualified personnel.
4. Nothing capable of generatingor holding a static charge should be allowed
on the work station surface.
5. Keep the component leadsshorted together whenever possible.
6. Pick up the components by thebody, never by the leads.
7. Do not slide the components over any surface.
8. Avoidhandling components in areas that have a floor or work surface
covering capableof generating a static charge.
9. Use a solderingiron that is connected to earth ground.
10. Use only special antistatic, suction, or wick-typedesoldering tools.
Instrument performanceshould be checked after each 2000 hours of operation, or
every 12 months, if usedintermittently. This will help to ensure maximum
performanceand assist in locating defects that may not be apparent during
regularoperation. The Performance Check Procedure and the Adjustment
Procedureare in Section 5.
TROUBLESHOOTING
The 1705A is equipped with a microprocessorand, aswith all of the new
Tektronixmonitors, it is capable of some power-up and off-line diagnostics. A
thorough understandingof the information available in the diagnostic routines
will assist in isolating problemsand speed repairs.
