Secure Connection

A passkey or link key is required each time a connection is attempted. All data exchanged over the Bluetooth connection is encrypted.

Depending on other configuration options, authorization may also be required.

Security Request Dialog Box

Depending on your security settings, you may see a Bluetooth Authorization or Bluetooth Passkey Request dialog box when a connection is attempted. But this is only if you have either Authorization or Authentication enabled.

The method of notification depends on the version of your Windows:

Windows 2000, Windows ME, and Windows XP – a bubble message is displayed over the Bluetooth Tray icon in the Windows system tray.

Windows 98SE – the BTW icon in the Windows system tray blinks.

Regardless of the version of your Windows, click the Bluetooth Tray icon in the Windows system tray and then follow the on-screen instructions. The instructions vary, depending on the security configuration of the system. If the security notification is ignored after a preset timeout, the connection request will fail.
