An Error Message Appears

Printing does not start due to an error writing to LPT1

Cause

Solution

Printer is not on

Check the POWER/ERROR light

 

The POWER/ERROR light should be green. If the light is

 

flashing, the printer is warming up.

Parallel cable not

Check the parallel cable

connected correctly

Make sure the parallel cable is securely fastened to the

 

computer and the printer. See the Quick Start Guide for

 

details.

Parallel cable fault

Try to use another parallel cable

 

Make sure you are using an IEEE 1284 ECP-compatible

 

parallel interface cable.

Another device is

Check the LPT1 port

connected to LPT1

Make sure the printer is connected to LPT1.

Switching device or

Check the switching device or external buffer

external buffer fault

Disconnect the switching device or external buffer and

 

print with the printer connected directly to the computer.

 

If you can then print normally, the fault is probably in the

 

switching device or external buffer. Consult the switching

 

device or external buffer supplier.

Print spool is not

Change the spool setting

operating correctly

Open the printer Properties dialog box. Windows 98 or

 

Windows 95—On the Details tab, click Spool Settings and

 

then select “Print directly to the printer.” Windows NT

 

4.0—On the Scheduling tab, click on “Print directly to the

 

printer.”
