Cisco UCS 5108 Server Chassis

TheCisco UCS 5100 Series Blade Server Chassis is a scalable and flexible blade server chassis for todays
andtomorrows data center that helps reduce total cost of ownership. It is available configured for AC
(N20-C6508)and DC(UCSB-5108-DC) power environments.
Issix rackunits (6 RU)high and can mount in an industry-standard19-inch rack with square holes (such as
theCisco R Series Racks) or in round hole racks when anadapter is used. The chassis can house up toeight
half-widthCisco UCS B-Series Blade Servers and can accommodate both half- and full-width blade form
factors.
Foursingle-phase, hot-swappable AC or DC power supplies are accessible from the front of the chassis. These
powersupplies can be configured to support nonredundant, N+1 redundant, and grid-redundant configurations.
Therear of the chassis contains eight hot-swappable fans, four power connectors (one per power supply), and
twoI/O bays for I/O modules. A passive midplane provides up to an effective maximum of 20 Gbps of I/O
bandwidthper server slot and up to 40 Gbps of I/O bandwidth for two slots, the midplane is built to eventually
support80 Gbps per slot.
Scalabilityis dependent onboth hardwareand software. For moreinformation, see FEXUpgrade
Considerations, on page 63 and the appropriate UCS softwarerelease notes.
LEDs
LEDson thechassis indicatesystem connectivity and failurewarnings. See LEDLocations, on page 24 for
details. There is also a flashing blue Beaconing LED and button that can be triggered manually or remotely
fromUCS Manager.
Buttons
Thebeaconing function LED is also a feature on/off button. When triggered, beaconing of the server chassis
isobservable remotely from UCSManager.
Connectors
Thereare no user connectors such as RJ-45 ports on the chassis itself.

Midplane

Theintegral chassis midplane supports thefollowing:
40G totalbandwidth to eachof twoI/O Modules
Auto-discoverof all components
Redundantdata and managementpaths
10G Base-KR
