Moving Server Chassis
Whenlifting the chassis, beaware of its weight, and follow these guidelines:
Donot try to lift the chassisusing the handleson the side. Thesehandles are intended only for moving
andadjusting the chassisposition.
Caution
Neverlift the chassis aloneAlways use two people to lift the chassis. If available, use a scissor jack
orother liftingdevice designed for installing heavy equipment into data center racks.
Disconnectall power andexternal cables before liftingthe chassis.
Removeall FEXes, power supplies,fans, andservers fromthe chassisbefore lifting.
Ensurethat your footing is solid and the weight of the system is evenly distributed between your feet.
Liftthe system slowly, keeping your back straight. Lift with your legs, not with your back. Bend at the
knees,not at the waist.
Donot removethe Power DistributionUnit (PDU) located at the back of the chassis.Caution
Installation Guidelines
Wheninstalling the chassis,follow these guidelines:
Planyour siteconfiguration and prepare the site before installingthe chassis. See Site Planning and
MaintenanceRecords, on page 79 for the recommended site planning tasks. For details, see the Cisco
UCSSite PreparationGuide.
Recordthe information listed in Site Planning and Maintenance Records, on page 79 as you install and
configurethe chassis.
Ensurethat there is adequate space around the chassis to allow for servicing the chassis and for airflow.
Ensurethat the air-conditioning meets the heat dissipation requirements listed in Technical Specifications,
onpage 69
Ensurethat the cabinet or rack meets the requirements listed in Rack Requirements, on page 30.
Jumperpower cords are available for use in a rack. See Specificationsfor the Cisco
UCS5108 Blade Server Chassis Power Supply Units, on page 72.
Note
Ensurethat the site power meets the power requirements listed in Technical Specifications, on page
69.We recommend that you use a UPS to protect the UCS system. Using an unprotected supply exposes
youto a risk of system failuredue to input supply voltage variations or failures.
