Removing a PDU

Procedure
Step 1 Partiallyremove all installed power supplies. If a power supply is seated into the PDU, removal is difficult
orimpossible.
Step 2 Loosenthe captivescrews.
Step 3 Pullthe PDU clear of the chassis by pulling on the captivescrews. Support its weight from below.
Installing and Removing FEXes
Thechassis houses two FEXes (Cisco UCS 2104XP, UCS 2208XP,UCS 2204XP) that allow the blade servers
inthe chassis to communicate with Cisco UCS fabric interconnects. FEXes can have either four or eight I/O
ports.
AFEX is sometimes referred to as an “I/OM”or IO Module.

FEX Upgrade Considerations

Beforeyou install a pair of UCS 2208XP FEXes to an existing UCS chassis using a pair of UCS 2104XPs,
oradd a new chassis with a pair of UCS 2208XP FEXes to a UCS instance you must perform a full upgrade
toUCS software version 2.0(1) or later. The UCS 2208XP FEX is not recognized by earlier software releases.
Beforeyou install a pair of UCS 2204XP FEXes to an existing UCS chassis using a pair of UCS 2104XPs,
oradd a new chassis with a pair of UCS 2204XP FEXes to a UCS instance you must perform a full upgrade
toUCS software version 2.0(2) or later. The UCS 2204XP I/O Module is not recognized by earlier software
releases.
Upgradingfrom a pair of UCS 2104XP to a pair of UCS 2200 series modules should be done first on the FEX
connectedto the standby Fabric Interconnect, standby should be made active, then the FEX connected to the
newstandby FabricInterconnect can beupgraded.
Ifyou are also performing an upgrade on the fabric interconnects, perform the upgrades separately. Attempting
toupgrade both FEXes and fabric interconnects in a single process will likely complicate any reconfiguration
neededon theFI ports.
Addingany M3 model bladeserver may require an upgrade from UCS 2104XP to UCS 2208 seriesFEXes.
M3blade servers use newer MLOM and adapter card models that are not fully compatible with the older FEX
model.
Beforeyou disconnect any data cables, make a record of which FEX ports are connected to which Fabric
interconnectports.
