9.2. Licensing XenServer Editions
XenServer Advanced, Enterprise, and Platinum editions use the same licensing model as other Citrix products.
XenServer Advanced editions and higher require a license for each XenServer host you use. From this XenServer
release forward, licenses will no longer be stored on the host server. Instead, all XenServer editions licenses
must be added to and administered from a Citrix Licensing Server and maintained and controlled using the Citrix
License Management Console. You can share the license server across all Citrix products.
Each XenServer host requires a license, but this does not limit the number of users that may connect to VMs on
that host. While licensing must be configured for each XenServer host, the XenCenter License Manager allows
you to apply the same settings to multiple hosts at once.

To license XenServer Advanced editions and higher:

1. Install the Citrix License Server and console.
For installation procedures, see the Licensing Your Product topic on Citrix eDocs. This XenServer release
requires Citrix Licensing 11.6.1 or higher.
2. Obtain your XenServer license files and load them on the Citrix License Server. For these procedures, see
the Licensing Your Product topic on Citrix eDocs.
3. Configure licensing for each XenServer host using XenCenter or the xe CLI.
