Upgrading Your Computer

Memory

Managing Random Access Memory (RAM)

To view the amount of existing random access memory (RAM) in the system

In Windows 95 or Windows 98 select StartSettingsControl PanelCompaq Diagnostics.

In Windows NT 4.0 select StartProgramsAdministrative ToolsCompaq Diagnostics.

You can increase RAM with optional memory expansion boards. For ordering information, go to the Compaq Internet site at http://www.compaq.com or refer to Appendix A to contact a Compaq authorized dealer, reseller, or

service provider.

When RAM increases, the hard drive space reserved for the hibernation file also increases. Windows 98 manages this increase. If the computer is running Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 and you experience problems with Hibernation after increasing RAM, verify that your hard drive has enough free space for the larger hibernation file.

To view the amount of space required by a hibernation file

In Windows 95 or Windows 98 select StartSettingsControl PanelPowerHibernation tab.

In Windows NT 4.0 select StartSettingsControl PanelCompaq PowerHibernation tab.

To view the amount of free space on your hard drive, select My Computerright-click your hard driveProperties.
