Updating ﬁrmware

Updating ﬁrmware

The ﬁrmware upgrade utility provides a way to replace the ﬁrmware that is coded on the switcher’s control board without taking the switcher out of service, opening the switcher enclosure, and replacing the ﬁrmware chip.

Update the switcher ﬁrmware as follows:

NThe update ﬁrmware utility is for replacing the ﬁrmware that controls all switcher operation. This is not the page to insert your own HTML pages. See Uploading HTML ﬁles, later in this chapter, to insert custom HTML pages.

1.	Visit the Extron web site, www.extron.com, select the CrossPoint/MAV Plus
	product category, and select the latest ﬁrmware install package (*.exe ﬁle) for
	download. Note the folder to which you save the ﬁrmware ﬁle.
2.	Run the executable (*.exe) ﬁle to decompress the ﬁrmware ﬁle.
3.	Start the Matrix Switcher+ Control Program and connect to the MVX Plus 128
	switcher. See Using the software in this chapter, steps 1 through 4, starting on
	page 5-3.

NThe Ethernet connection is much faster than the RS-232/RS-422 connection. Extron recommends using the Ethernet connection rather than the serial port for ﬁrmware uploads.

4. Click Tools > Update ﬁrmware. The open ﬁle window appears (ﬁgure 5-7).

5. Navigate to the folder where you saved the ﬁrmware upgrade ﬁle. Select the ﬁle.

NValid ﬁrmware ﬁles must have the ﬁle extension .S19. Any other ﬁle extension is not a ﬁrmware upgrade.

NThe original factory-installed ﬁrmware is permanently available on the

MVX Plus 128 switcher. If the attempted ﬁrmware upload fails for any reason, the switcher reverts to the factory-installed ﬁrmware.

6. Click the Open button. A status window, which shows the progress of the upload, appears. The ﬁrmware upload to the MVX Plus 128 switcher may take a few minutes.
