Serial/Parallel Port Configuration Submenu Options

Configuration options for the Serial/Parallel Port Configuration submenu are given in Table 3-4.Note that some peripheral interfaces are only available when using a device attached to the system interface port such as the mini-dock.

Table 3-4. Serial/Parallel Port Configurations Submenu Options

Option	Settings	Description
Serial Port	Disabled	Determines whether the serial port is active and the
	Enabled	method used to configure the serial port.
	Auto
		Select [Auto] to allow the BIOS or operating system
		to configure the port automatically.
		Select [Enabled] to configure the Base I/O Address
		and Interrupt options manually in BIOS setup.
		Select [Disabled] to turn serial port A off.
I/O Address	3F8 - 3FF	Determines the base I/O address used for the serial
	2F8 - 2FF	port. The Serial Port option must be set to [Enabled]
	3E8 - 3EF	before this setting can be changed.
	2E8 - 2EF
Interrupt	IRQ 3	Determines the interrupt request level used for the
	IRQ 4	serial port. The Serial Port option must be set to
		[Enabled] before this setting can be changed.
Infrared Port	Disabled	Determines whether the infrared port is active and
	Enabled	the method used to configure the infrared port.
	Auto
		Select [Auto] to allow the BIOS or operating system
		to configure the port automatically.
		Select [Enabled] to configure the I/O Address and
		Interrupt options manually in BIOS setup.
		Select [Disabled] to turn off the infrared port.
Mode	IrDA	Determines which physical interface the infrared port
	FIR	is assigned to. Select IrDA to use the IrDA port in
		Standard IR (SIR) mode (115 Kbps). Select FIR to
		use the IrDA port in Fast IR mode (4 Mbps).
I/O Address	3F8 - 3FF	Determines the base I/O address used for the
	2F8 - 2FF	infrared port. The Infrared Port option must be set to
	3E8 - 3EF	[Enabled] before this setting can be changed.
	2E8 - 2EF
Interrupt	IRQ 3	Determines the interrupt request level used for the
	IRQ 4	infrared port. The Infrared Port option must be set to
		[Enabled] before this setting can be changed.
I/O Address	100 - 107	Determines the base I/O address for the infrared
	108 - 10F	port. This option is only selectable when the Infrared
	110 - 117	Port Mode setting is FIR.
