Heatsink Thermal Protectio n
The Heatsink Thermal Protect ion function measures th e power bridge heatsink and
ambient temperatur es and verifies that they are at a safe oper ating level.
Function inputs
The inputs to the Heatsink Thermal Protection function are hardware thermal sensor
connections. The bri dge ambient temperature therma l sensor connects to backplan e
connector J4. The contr ol rack ambient temperature th ermal sensor is located on
BICM. The heatsink ther mal sensors connect to FOSA. The fol lowing table
summarizes the source o f the input signals of the Heatsink Thermal Protection
function.
Input signal connection Thermal sensor

FOSA TF-A Heatsink A thermal sensor
FOSA TF-B Heatsink B thermal sensor
FOSA TF-C Heatsink C thermal sensor
FOSA TF-DB Dynamic brake heatsink thermal sensor

Function outputs
The following table specifies the output variables of the Heatsink Thermal
Protection function.
Variable Description
Heat sink A temp Measured temperature of heatsink A. Degrees C or
Degrees F
Heat sink B temp Measured temperature of heatsink B. Degrees C or
Degrees F
Heat sink C temp Measured temperature of heatsink C. Degrees C or
Degrees F
DB heat sink temp Measured temperature of dynamic brake heatsink.
Degrees C or Degrees F
DS heat sink temp Measured temperature of diode source heatsink.
Degrees C or Degrees F
Bridge ambi ent temp Measured b ridge ambient temperature. D egrees C or
Degrees F
BIC ambient temp Measu red control ra ck ambient temp erature.
Degrees C or Degrees F
In simulator mode, the output variables are set to constant values which are the
maximum expected opera ting temperatures.
