NDIS Software Package

Overview

The NDIS driver enables the iSPAN-Serial WAN adapter to

emulate a LAN adapter. It supports the transportation of TCP/IP and IPX/SPX protocols over WAN serial lines. The NDIS driver enables the adapter to connect simultaneously to

TCP/IP and IPX/SPX LANs over dedicated leased lines or through Frame Relay or X.25 networks. It is available for PPP, X.25, and Frame Relay data protocols.

This chapter explains how to install the NDIS software on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 systems. Use this process to install the Base driver, Base driver utilities, NDIS driver, and NDIS driver utilities. This chapter also explains how to remove NDIS and Base driver software, if required.

After installation, you can create up to four NDIS driver configurations (referred to as logical adapters) on the server for LAN connections. This multi-driver capability on the server side enables remote users to connect to the server through different networks simultaneously over serial lines. NDIS driver connections provide remote access to services typically available to LAN-connected users, such as file- and print-sharing, database access, and messaging.

To install the NDIS software, follow these basic steps:

1.Verify that your system meets minimum requirements.

2.Install the Base driver and NDIS driver, with accompanying software.

3.Set up WAN properties.
