Setting Up the NDIS Driver 5

Overview

You can create up to four NDIS driver configurations for connecting the iSPAN-Serial WAN adapter to IP and/or IPX networks. This capability allows the adapter to emulate a LAN adapter and connect with up to four IP and IPX networks simultaneously. The driver transports TCP/IP and IPX/SPX protocols over the following types of connections:

PPP, X.25, and Frame Relay point-to-point connections

X.25 and Frame Relay point-to-multipoint connections

Each NDIS driver connection configuration is referred to as a logical adapter. Logical adapters specify adapter properties, network protocol properties, channels, and channel properties to use for WAN network connections.

During the NDIS driver installation, one logical adapter is automatically created and assigned a unique adapter identifier. You can use the NDIS Driver Setup utility to change the logical adapter’s default network and channel properties. In addition, you can use the Windows NT Network Control Panel to create up to three additional logical adapters, and then use the NDIS Driver Setup utility to set up properties for the logical adapters.

The chapter explains how to do the following NDIS Driver Setup tasks:
