Connecting a PC to the Instant Internet unit

This procedure assumes that the Instant Internet unit is installed, turned on, and ready for operation. LED 2 glows amber when the unit is ready for initial configuration.

Note: You can connect any type of smart terminal in a similar manner.

To connect a PC to the Instant Internet unit:

1Plug one end of the null modem cable into the AUX port on the rear of the unit.

2Plug the other end of the cable into the serial port on the PC.

You can now use terminal emulation software to configure the Instant Internet unit using remote access commands.

Configuring a direct connection

Regardless of the terminal emulation environment you use, you must set the connection speed to 115200, set the flow control to hardware (RTS/CTS), and connect the Instant Internet unit’s AUX port to the PC’s COM1 port.
