Connecting a modem to the Instant Internet unit

Before you connect the modem to the Instant Internet unit, you must turn off the unit.

Note: Before you continue with this procedure, be sure that you have properly configured the modem connection settings. For details, refer “Configuring modem connection settings” on page 70.

To connect a dial-up modem to the Instant Internet unit:

1Turn off the Instant Internet unit.

2Plug one end of the DB9 serial cable into the AUX port on the rear of the Instant Internet unit.

3Plug the other end of the cable into the modem.

4Plug one end of the telephone cord into the modem and the other end into the wall phone jack.

5Turn on the modem.

6Turn on the Instant Internet unit.

If you are configuring the unit, wait for LED 2 to glow amber.

Connecting to an Instant Internet unit

You can use any terminal emulation software application to dial in to the Instant Internet unit.

To connect to the Instant Internet unit:

Dial the telephone number of the modem attached to the unit.

After you establish a connection, you can begin using remote access commands to configure the unit. For details, refer to Reference for the BayStack Instant Internet Remote Access Commands Version 7.11.
