80 Appendix B Adapter cable pinout diagrams

Remote access adapter cables

If you want to connect a PC or dial-up modem directly to your Instant Internet 400-S unit to configure the unit using remote access commands (out-of-band management), you must provide the connection cable. These are standard cables. You can have a cable made according to the pinout diagrams in this appendix or you can purchase the cable from any computer supply store.

For more information on configuring your unit remotely, refer to Reference for the BayStack Instant Internet Remote Access Commands Version 7.11.

Null modem adapter (PC-to-PC) cable

Figure 17 shows the pinout settings for a null modem adapter cable (also referred to as a pc-to-pc file transfer cable). This serial cable must have two DB-9 female connectors.

Use a null modem cable to connect a PC to the Instant Internet unit’s AUX port for out-of-band management.
