I can’t tell if data services are available

When your phone is on, icons appear in the title bar in the Main tab in the Phone application to indicate whether data services are available and whether a data connection is active. Make sure that either of the following icons appears in the title

bar of the Main tab: . If you do not see either of these icons, data services are not available in your current location and you cannot exchange multimedia messages.

I can’t send or receive text messages

Make sure your SIM card is inserted correctly (see Inserting the SIM card and battery) and your phone is turned on (see Turning your phone on and off).

Contact your wireless service provider to verify that your plan includes text messaging services, that these services

have been correctly activated, and that they are available at your location. Your wireless service provider should be able to tell you if text messaging services have been experiencing transmission delays. Delays can also occur between the time that a message is sent and the time it is received.

Verify with the recipient that the receiving device can handle text messages.

If a text message arrives but does not display an alert, perform a soft reset (see Performing a soft reset).

I can’t send or receive multimedia messages

Make sure your phone is turned on (see Turning your phone on and off).

Contact your wireless service provider to verify that your plan includes multimedia messaging services (MMS), that these services have been correctly activated, and that they are available at your location. Your wireless service provider should be able to tell you if multimedia messaging services have been experiencing transmission delays.
