There are three holes in the forward end of the cut sheet paper feed cassettes. Plastic inserts are set in these holes according to the size of the cut sheet paper loaded in the cassette (as shown in the table that follows).

When the plastic inserts in the cassette contact the paper size sensors on the printer, the printer determines that the paper cassette is in position and identifies the paper size.
