To install a module, turn the printer off, and raise the printer stock door. With the module label facing up, carefully seat the module firmly into one of the module slots, taking care not to bend the pins in the connector (see Figure B±1). The upper module slot is B and the lower is C. The printer will sense the presence of a module in slot B, in C, or in both.

The external memory modules come in two different types:

Plug-In Application Memory Modules (1 MB and 4 MB)

Fixed Font Memory Modules

Plug-In Application Memory Modules (1 and 4 MB)

These are the most flexible of the memory options. They provide virtually permanent storage of custom fonts, graphics data and the formats used in label format printing. Each module holds up to 1 or 4 MB of font, graphic image or label format data.

NOTE: 8 MB is possible only when two 4-MB memory modules are installed.

Fonts can be loaded into the modules by most programs that are capable of transmitting fonts in the HP PCL±4 format, which is the format used to load fonts to the HP LaserJet II printer.

Graphics can be loaded by using programs with an image download function. Loading images can also be done with minimal programming on most host computers, since the printer accepts the commonly used .PCX and .TIFF file formats. Application memory modules can also store and recall label formats.

NOTE: Single font bitmaps, images or formats cannot be deleted individually. The entire module must be cleared and the data reloaded. When data is downloaded with a previously existing name, the printer deletes the existing name but will not free up the space.

A write-protect switch on the FLASH module can protect stored data from being overwritten or erased.

Fixed Font Memory Modules

Fixed font memory modules provide permanent storage for a selection of pre-programmed bit-mapped and proportional fonts.

Internal Memory Expansion

The DRAM memory in the printer can be expanded to 5 (T3306 only) or 17 MB. Additional memory allows for larger label formats to be loaded into the printer memory, thereby making it possible to print long labels. This option should be installed only by an authorized service representative.
