36 Sendingand Rec eiving Text Messages (SMS)
Sending and ReceivingText Messages (SMS)
TheShort Me ssage Service (SMS) allows you to send and rece ive text mes-
sagesconsisting of up to 160 characters.
Youcan receive text messages when the phone is in standby mode, durin g a
callor whe n incoming calls are diverted to another ph one number.
Ifyour SIM card does notcontain the phon e number to your network service
centre,you must spec ify the number yourself. Otherwise you cannot reply to
messagesreceived or send your ow n messages. See “Enabling the Phone to
SendSMS” on page 37.
Note!The Short Message S ervice may not be available on all networks. Some
networkoperators may only allow SMS t o be sent within their own network.

Receiving a Message

Whenyou receive a message, you heara signaland the display indicatesthat
youhave a new messa ge. The indicator light on the top of the phone rapidly
flashesgreen.
Note!All networks do not sendan audible signal.
Toread the message now
1. PressYES when you see the
Readnow?
prompt.
Thedisplay shows the status of the message (
New
)andwhenitwas
received.If your netw ork supports Calling Line Identification, the
sender’snumberis displayed. If the sender’snumber and name is stored in
thephone book, his or he r name is shown instead.
2. PressYES and scroll through the m essage using the arrow keys. RIGHT
takesyou forwards an dLEFT takes y ou backwards through the message.
Togo to the end of the message, press and hold RIGH T.
