Installing and Operating the Module 3 -17
When you set redundancy between tw o ports on the same 10BASE-FB
Module and the primary port and the redundant po rt experience a link
failure simultaneously, and you disable redundancy:
The primary port is disabled
The redundant port is enabled
Enabling Low Light Warning
You can enable or disable low light warning for all ports on the module.
When you enable low light warni ng, the Status LED of the port which
detects the low light condition blinks 6 times. (A low light condition is
defined as power received betw een -26.0 dBm and -30.0 dBm peak power.)
You may have a legal config uration in which low light is acceptable to span
a long distance. In this case, you may want to disable the low light
warning so the Status LED does not blink for this c onnection.
To enable or disable low light warning for a po rt, use the following
management command:
SET PORT {
slot.port
} LOW_LIGHT_WARNING {e nable}
{
slot
.all} {disable}
Enabling Optical Power
High-power optics are standard in all 3Co m ONline fiber optic products.
The higher power allows you to directly c onnect buildings as far as 4.0
kilometers apart without the additional expense of signa l-boosting
equipment. However, it is necessary to set a port to the no rmal power
setting when it is connected to a 3Com 10BA SE-FB fiber optic product.
Each port on the Port-Switching 10BASE-FB module can be set to high or
normal power through the dip switches or through ma nagement
commands. To set a port to high or normal power, us e the following
management command:
SET PORT {
slot.port
} HIGH_POWER {en able}
{
slot
.all} {disable}
