Connecting other devices

For instructions on connecting a device not discussed in this chapter—for example, an external input device (such as a mouse) or networking hardware—refer to the manuals that came with the device.

Adding memory to your computer

Your Macintosh PowerBook comes with at least 8 MB of RAM. You can increase your computer’s memory by adding a RAM expansion card. You can find out how much memory your computer has by choosing About This Macintosh from the Apple (K) menu in the Finder.

You can purchase memory upgrades from Apple-authorized dealers. For complete instructions on installing a RAM expansion card, see Appendix C.

Your Macintosh PowerBook also supports virtual memory, a feature that makes use of hard disk space to provide additional RAM. You computer was developed to take advantage of the virtual memory feature, and comes with virtual memory turned on. For information on using virtual memory, see the “Memory” topic of Macintosh Guide, available in the Guide ( h) menu.
