No modem dial tone

1.Check that the correct modem is selected. In Mac OS X, check Network Setup. In Mac OS 9, check the Modem control panel.

2.Verify known-good analog (not digital) telephone line.

3.Verify known-good RJ11 telephone cable.

4.Verify RJ11 cable is not plugged into Ethernet port.

5.Inspect RJ11 connector and modem port for pin damage.

6.Verify RJ11 telephone cable is firmly installed in the modem port.

7.If using Apple Remote Access, select Ignore Dial Tone in the Modem control panel. If the modem connects with this settings selected, try another phone line. If using a terminal or communications program, enter atx1 to disable tone detection. To reset the modem back to the factory settings, enter atz.

8.Check RJ-11 wires to modem filter board.

9.Verify modem wire’s 2-pin connectors are plugged into modem and modem filter board correctly.

10.Check modem wire. If damaged, replace rib frame and modem cable assembly.

11.Replace modem filter board.

12.Replace modem.

Modem does not respond (gets dial tone)

1.Check software.

2.Replace modem.

Optical Drive

The optical drive does not accept CD or DVD disc (mechanical failure)

1.Verify disc is not warped and is a 12 cm circular disc.

2.Verify disc is pushed almost all the way into the slot.

3.Check the optical drive flex cable.

4.Replace optical drive.
