Using ARP in Windows 95, Windows NT

Please note that although it is recommended practice to refer to the host name when accessing your AXIS 540/640, it is perfectly acceptable to replace this name with the Internet address in all instances. Indeed, this becomes a necessity when:

the host name has not been included in your system host table

attempting to use the arp command in a Windows 95 or NT environment.

The latter point is demonstrated in the first of the examples below.

In both Windows 95 and Windows NT the Internet address can be set using the arp method. Perform the following commands to down-load the Internet address and verify correct Internet communication.

AXIS 540/542 Ethernet Print Server:

Start a DOS window. Type the following command:

arp -s <Internet address> <Ethernet address> ping <Internet address>

arp -d <Internet address>

Example:

arp -s 192.168.3.191 00-40-8c-10-00-86 ping 192.168.3.191

arp -d <192.168.3.191>

The host will returnor some similar message. This indicates that the address has been set and the communication is established.
