System Requirements The following requirements must be fulfilled in order to make full use for SNMP of the AXIS 540/640 SNMP support:

An NMS software that allows you to install private enterprise MIBs.

A host that supports FTP on which to run the NMS software.

Follow these steps to add the AXIS MIB to your NMS software:

1.Log in to the AXIS 540/640 using FTP.

2.Up-load the MIB file /snmp/axis.mib to the NMS host.

3.Install the AXIS MIB according to instructions in your NMS software documentation.

Note: The AXIS MIB is not available in the AXIS 540 and AXIS 542 models. However, this can be uploaded from any other of the AXIS print servers and used for configuring these models. This file may also be downloaded from the AXIS Utilities diskette or alternatively, obtained via the Axis WWW Home Page, see Appendix C - Updating the Software.

The AXIS MIB The AXIS MIB contains a large number of objects which may be categorised as follows:

Menu objects - used for viewing and changing the AXIS 540/640 configuration from the NMS program.Refer to Appendix A - The Test Button.

Printer status and unit administration objects - used for monitoring AXIS 540/640 print jobs and storing parameter changes permanently.

Trap objects - used for alarms at various error conditions.

For technical details, you can view the MIB file (axis.mib) with any text editor.
