If the performance o f your wireless n etwork is impair ed after attend ing to
the above issues, and you have a cordless phone:
• Try moving cordless phon es away from your Rou ter
and your wireless-en abled computers.
• Unplug and remove the bat tery from any c ordless phone th at
operates on the 2.4GHz ban d (check manufact urer’s information).
If this fixes the proble m, your phone may b e interfering.
• If your phone support s channel selec tion, change the c hannel on
the phone to the farth est channel from your wireless ne twork. For
example, change the pho ne to channel 1 an d move your Router to
channel 11. See your phone’s user m anual for detaile d instructions.
• If necessary, conside r switching to a 90 0MHz cordless ph one.
1 Router Placement
Place your Router, the central connection point of your network, as cl ose
as possible to the center of your wireless network devices.
To achieve the best wireless network coverage for your “wireless clients”
(i.e., computers enabled by Belkin Wireless Notebook Network Cards,
Wireless Desktop Network Cards, and Wireless US B Adapters):
• EnsurethatyourRouter’sne tworkingantennasare paralleltoeach
other, and are positioned vertically (toward the ceiling).
• Inmultistoryhomes,p lacetheRouteronaflo orthatisasclosetoth e
center of the home as p ossible. This ma y mean placing th e Router on
an upper floor.
• TrynottoplacetheRouter nearacordless2.4GHzp hone.
2 avoid obstacles and Inter ference
Avoid placing your Router near devices that may emit radio “noise,”
such as microwave ovens. De nse objects tha t can inhibit wire less
communication include:
• Refrigerators
• Washers and/or dryers
• Metal cabinets
• Large aquariums
• Metallic-based UV tin ted windows
If your wireless signal seems weak in s ome spots, make su re that objects
such as these are not blocking the sign al’s path (between your computers
and Router).
