Network (VPN) connection
Wireless technology is rad io-based, which me ans connectivity a nd
the throughput perfo rmance between devices decreas es when the
distance between devi ces increases. Other factors th at will cause
signal degradation (metal i s generally the wors t culprit) are obstru ctions
such as walls and metal app liances. Note also tha t connection speed
may decrease as you move far ther away from the Route r.
In order to determine if wireless issue s are related to ra nge, we
suggest temporar ily moving the compute r, if possibl e, five to 10 feet
from the Router.
Changing the wireless channel—Depending o n local wireless traffic
and interference, switc hing the wireles s channel of your network can
improve performance a nd reliability. The default channel the Router
is shipped with is cha nnel 11; you may choose from several other
channels depending on your region. See the section on pa ge 35
entitled “Changing the Wireless Channel ” for instruction s on how to
choose other channels .
I can’t connect to the Internet wirelessly, and my network name is
not listed
If the correct networ k name is not liste d under “Available Net works” in
the wireless utility, ple ase attempt the f ollowing troublesh ooting steps:
1 Tempo rarily move compu ter, if possible, five to 10 feet from the
Router. Close the wireless utility, and reopen it. If the corre ct
network name now appea rs under “Available Ne tworks”, you may
have a range or interfe rence problem. Pl ease see the sug gestions
discussed in the sect ion titled “Place ment of your N Wire less
Router” of this User Ma nual.
2 Usin g a computer that is connected to t he Router via a net work
cable (as opposed to wi relessly), ensure that “Broadcast SSID” is
enabled. This setting is found on the Ro uter’s wireless “Ch annel
and SSID” configuratio n page.
If you are still unable to access the Inter net after comple ting these steps,
please contact Belki n Technical Support .
