Dialling does not work | Check for a dial tone. Change TONE/PULSE setting. (See Setting |

| page 19) Check all line cord connections. Check power cord |
| connection. Send a manual fax by lifting the external telephone’s |
| handset, and dialling the number. Wait to hear fax receiving tones |
| before pressing Mono Fax Start. |

The machine Does Not | Make sure the machine is not in MANUAL mode. Check for dial |
Answer When Called | tone. If possible, call the machine to hear it answer. If there is still |
| no answer, check the telephone line cord connection. If there is no |
| ringing when you call the machine, call your Telephone Company |
| to check the line. |
|
|
No dial tone on the external | Lifting the external phone’s |
telephone’s handset | then Mono Fax Start. If you hear no dial tone, check telephone |
| line cord connections at the machine and wall socket. Check that the |
| external telephone is connected to the machine correctly. Test the |
| wall socket with another single line telephone. If no dial tone on the |
| wall outlet, call your Telephone Company. |

Sending Faxes |
|
|
|
Poor Transmitting Quality | Try changing your resolution to FINE or S.FINE. Make a copy to |
| verify the machine’s scanner operation. |
|
|
Transmission Verification | There is probably temporary noise or static on the line. Try sending |
Report says | the fax again. If you send a PC FAX message and get |
“Result:ERROR” again. | “Result:ERROR” on the Transmission Verification Report, the |
| machine may be out of memory. To gain extra memory, you can |
| turn off Fax Storage (See Setting Fax Storage, page 48), print fax |
| message in memory (See Printing a Fax from Memory, page 29) or |
| cancel a delayed fax or polling job (See Checking and Cancelling a |
| Scheduled Job in Memory, page 36). If the problem continues, call |
| the telephone company to check your phone line. |

Vertical Black Lines When | If the copy you made shows the same problem, your scanner is dirty. |
