The SIMM should snap into place between the tabs and the retaining posts. If it does not go in smoothly, do not force it; pull it all the way out and try again.

Make sure the SIMM is fully inserted into the socket and that the pins on the retaining posts protrude through the holes in both ends.

6.Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each SIMM you want to install.

7.Replace the subassembly. See page 5-33 for instructions.

8.Follow the steps on page 5-41 to replace the computer’s cover. Then see "Post-installation Setup” (following that section) for instructions on configuring your computer for use with your new memory.

Removing Memory Modules

If you need to remove memory modules from your computer, have your dealer do it for you or follow the steps below. If you remove them yourself, check the table on page 5-23 to be sure you remove SIMMs from the correct sockets.

Caution

It is safer to have your dealer remove SIMMs for you since there is a danger of transmitting an electrostatic discharge and damaging your components.

1.Remove the cover. See page 5-2 for instructions.

2.Remove the subassembly. See page 5-18.
