Message Types

Status Messages

Status messages reflect the current state of the printer. They inform the user of normal printer operation and do not require user interaction to clear them. They change as the state of the printer changes. Whenever the printer is ready, not busy, and has no pending warning messages, the status message READY is displayed if the printer is online. If the printer is offline, the message OFFLINE is displayed.

Warning Messages

Warning messages inform you of data and print errors. These messages typically alternate with the READY or OFFLINE messages and remain displayed until you press GO. If CLEARABLE WARNING is set to JOB in the printer’s configuration menu, then these messages are cleared by the next print job.

Attention Messages

Attention messages inform you that some action must be taken, such as adding paper or clearing a paper jam. For certain errors, the printer continues printing without user intervention. If AUTO CONTINUE is set to ON in the configuration menu, the printer will automatically attempt to return online.

Critical Error Messages

Critical Error messages inform you of a device failure. You can clear some of these messages by turning the printer off and then on. These messages are not affected by the AUTO CONTINUE setting. If a condition persists, service is required.
