Start with pull starter

English

Operating Manual – Snowthrower

Before starting the engine, release coupling levers (Figure 1, items 1 and 2)/coupling bar (Figure 1, item 1).

Check contents of fuel tank and oil level, as required fill up with oil and fuel (see “Engine instructions”).

Start with pull starter

Set shut-off valve (10), if this is present, to “ON”.

Put spark-plug connector (8) onto the spark plug.

(STH 5.56, STH 8.66, STH 10.66

C) Set throttle lever (7) to “ ”.

For a cold start, set choke (2) to “ Start with electric starter (optional) ”/“ON”.

Insert ignition key (1) in the ignition lock. In (STH 953), also turn to “ON”.

Press primer knob (3) once. In cold weather press it twice or three times.

Pull the pull starter (4) slowly until some resistance is felt, then quickly and vigorously. Do not let the pull starter recoil quickly but lead it back slowly.

Set choke (2) back progressively to “OFF”.

Start with electric starter (optional)

(STH 5.56, STH 8.66, STH 10.66 C)

To start the engine, the electric starter must be connected to the mains power supply.

!Risk of electric shock

Make sure that the mains supply network is protected with a fault current circuit-breaker. If required, have an appropriate circuit-breaker fitted, but only by a trained electrician.

For connecting the electric starter to the mains, use only extension cables (not supplied with the machine) which are approved for use in the open air and which are protected by an earth wire, e.g. up to a maximum length of 50 m:

H07RN-F 3x1.5 mm² up to –25 °C

H07BQ-F 3x1.5 mm² up to –40 °C.

!Risk of electric shock Caution

If the electric starter is not connected properly, damage could occur to the machine or in its vicinity.

Make sure that the mains supply network

is operating in conformity with the specifications on the starter identification plate (Figure 2, item 9) at 220–230 V and 50 Hz

is protected by an appropriate fuse system.

Put spark-plug connector (8) onto the spark plug.

Set throttle lever (7) to “ ”.

Insert ignition key (1) in the ignition lock, but do not turn it.

Connect extension cable first with the plug (5) and then with a mains socket.

Set choke (2) to “OFF”.

Press starter button (6) long enough (max. 5 sec.) for the

engine to start. For a cold start, set choke (2) while the starter button is being pressed to “ Stop the engine ”. Wait at least 10 sec. before attempting to start the engine again.

As required, set the choke (2) progressively back to “OFF”.

Separate the extension cable first from the mains and then from the electric starter.

Stop the engine

Figure 2

To avoid damage to the machine or starting problems arising from moisture, let the engine run for a few minutes before switching it off (to dry out).

(STH 5.56, STH 8.66, STH 10.66

C) Set throttle lever (7) to Put in gear ”.

Ignition key (1)

(STH 953) turn to “OFF” and pull it out.

(STH 5.56, STH 8.66, STH 10.66 C) pull it out.

Set shut-off valve (10), if present, to “OFF”.

Put in gear

(Type 3 to Type 9)

Figure 1

Eliminate any blockages in the worm or the throw-out chute Caution

Release coupling levers (1 and 2) before you select a gear or change gear.

Select a gear with the shift lever (6):

Forwards: “1” (slow) up to “5”/“6” (fast)

Reverse: “R” (slow) and “R ” (fast).

Eliminate any blockages in the worm or the throw-out chute

!Risk of injury

Before doing any work on this machine

Turn off the engine.

Wait until all moving parts have come to a halt.

Remove the ignition key and the spark-plug connector.

Use a wooden rod or a shovel to eliminate of the blockage

Snow chains (optional)

In extreme weather conditions, snow chains can be obtained from specialist dealers and used on the machine.
