30 Parental Levels
The Player can block or play a DVD based on its rating. Some DVDs let you enter your password to play a Disc. If not, remove the DVD, then change the PARENTAL setting so you can watch the Disc.
Not all DVDs conform to the levels you select, as not all DVDs are coded or protected by the manu- facturer. Make sure the DVD plays according to your PARENTAL setting before you give children access to the Player or DVDs.
To prevent specific DVDs from playing, regardless of how you set the PARENTAL level, see page 29.
1Press STOP twice to stop DVD play.
2Press SYSTEM MENU.
3Press 2 to select PREFERENCE PAGE, then press OK. You can select PREFERENCE PAGE only if you have stopped play by pressing STOP twice as directed in step 1.
4Press 4 to select PARENTAL. Press 2.
5Press 3 or 4 to choose the level at which you want to restrict play, then press OK.
For example, if you do not want children to watch movies rated above PG, select 3 PG. DVDs rated PG can play without entering a password; DVDs rated higher cannot play unless you enter your password.
6A screen will prompt you to enter your pass- word. Press the Number buttons to enter your

RATING EXPLANATIONS
•ADULT - Mature material, for adults only; graphic sex, violence, or language.
•NC-17 - No children under age 17.
•R - Restricted; recommended that parents restrict children under age 17 from viewing or allow children to view only when supervised by a parent or adult guardian.
•PGR - Parental Guidance Required.
•PG 13 - Material is unsuitable for children under age 13.
•PG - Parental Guidance sug- gested.
•G - General Audience; rec- ommended as acceptable for viewers of all ages.
•KID SAFE (SAF) - Safe for children to view.
Helpful Hints
•PARENTAL does not affect Video CDs, Super Video CDs, or Audio CDs. PARENTAL only affects DVD play.
•Your password must have exactly six digits. A series of Xs will appear on the TV instead of your password to pro- tect its identity.
