Aspectratio
Thisis the width-to-height ratio of a TV screen.
Aregular display has an aspect ratio of 4:3.
Widescreen displays have an aspectratio of
16:9,providing a bigger picture for exceptional
presenceand atmosphere.
Bitrate
Thisexpresses data volume per second, or bps
units(bits per second). The higher the rate,
themore information is available to reproduce
thesound. Using the same encoding method
(suchas MP3), the higher the rate, the better
thesound.

Browsablepictures
Afeature of some DVD audio discs in which
youcan browse still pictures recorded on the

Chapter

DolbyDigital
DolbyDigital provides multi-channel audio
fromup to 5.1 independent channels. This is
thesame as the Dolby Digital surround sound
systemused in theaters.
DolbyPro Logic B
DolbyPro Logic Bcan create five full-band-
widthoutput channels from two-channel
sources.This new technology enables a dis-
crete5-channel playback with 2 front chan-
nels,1 center channel, and 2 rear channels. A
musicmode is also available for 2-channel
sourcesin addition to the movie mode.
DTS
Thisstands for Digital Theater Systems. DTS is
asurround system delivering multi-channel
audiofrom up to 6 independent channels.
Dynamicrange control
DolbyDigital has a function for compressing
thedifference between the loudest and softest
sounds:Dynamic range control. This control
ensuressounds with an increased dynamic
rangeare heard clearly even at low volume le-
vels.
Group
Acollection of tracks on a DVD audio disc.
Equivalentto a DVD video title.
ID3tag
Thisis a method of embedding track-related
informationin a MP3 file. This embedded in-
formationcan include the track title, the ar-
tistsname, the album title, the music genre,
theyear of production, comments and other
data.The contents can be freely edited using
softwarewith ID3 Tag editing functions.
Althoughthe tags are restricted to the number
ofcharacters, the information can be viewed
whenthe track is played back.
ISO9660format
Thisis the international standard for the for-
matlogic of CD-ROM folders and files. For the
ISO9660format, there are regulations for the
followingtwo levels.
Level1:
Thefile name is in 8.3 format (the name con-
sistsof up to 8 characters, half-byte English
capitalletters and half-byte numerals and the
_sign,with a file-extension of three charac-
ters.)
