Auto TAand EQ (auto-timealignment and auto-equalizing)
Theauto-time alignment automatically adjusts
thedistance between each speaker and the
listeningposition.
Theauto-equalizer automatically measures
thecar interior acoustic characteristics, and
thencreates the auto-equalizer cur ve based
onthat information.
WARNING
Toprevent accidents, never carry out auto TA and
EQwhile driving. When this function measures
thecar interior acoustic characteristics to create
anauto-equalizer curve, a loud measurement
tone(noise) may be output from the speakers.
CAUTION
!Carryingout auto TA and EQ under the follow-
ingconditions may damage the speakers. Be
sureto check the conditions thoroughly be-
forecarrying out auto TA and EQ.
Whenspeakers are incorrectly connected.
(e.g.,When a rear speaker is connected to
asubwoofer output.)
Whena speaker is connected to a power
ampdelivering output higher than the
speakersmaximum input power capabil-
ity.
!Ifthe microphone is placed in an unsuitable
positionthe measurement tone may become
loudand measurement may take a long time,
resultingin a drain on battery power. Be sure
toplace the microphone in the specified loca-
tion.

Before operating the auto TA

and EQ function

!Carryout auto TA and EQ in as quiet a
placeas possible, with the car engine and
airconditioning switched off. Also cut
powerto car phones or portable telephones
inthe car, or remove them from the car be-
forecarrying out autoTA and EQ. Sounds
otherthan the measurement tone (sur-
roundingsounds, engine sound, tele-
phonesringing etc.) may prevent correct
measurementof the car interior acoustic
characteristics.
!Besure to carry outauto TA and EQ using
thesupplied microphone. Using another
microphonemay prevent measurement, or
resultin incorrect measurement of thecar
interioracoustic characteristics.
!Whenfront speaker is not connected, auto
TAand EQ cannot be carried out.
!Whenthis unit is connected to a power
ampwith input level control, auto TA and
EQmay not be possible if you lower power
ampinput level. Set the power amps input
levelto the standard position.
!Whenthis unit is connected to a power
ampwith an LPF,turn off the LPF on the
poweramp before carr ying out auto TAand
EQ.In addition, the cut-off frequency for
built-inLPF of an activesubwoofer should
beset to the highest frequency.
!Thetime alignment value calculated by
autoTA and EQ may differ from the actual
distancein the following circumstances.
However,the distance has been calculated
bycomputer to be the optimum delay to
giveaccurate results for the circum-
stances,so please continue to use this
value.
Whenthe reflected sound within a vehi-
cleis strong and delays occur.
Whendelays occur for low sounds due
tothe influence of the LPF on active
subwoofersor external amps.
