Thededuplication manager is one of the storage server core

components.The deduplication manager maintains the

configurationand controls internal processes, optimized

duplication,security, and event escalation.

Thededuplication manager binary file name is spad. The spad

processappears as the NetBackup Deduplication Manager in the

NetBackupAdministration Console.

Thecatalog plug-in implements a standardized catalog API, which

letsthe NetBackup Deduplication Engine communicate with the

back-enddatabase process. The catalog plug-in translates

deduplicationengine catalog calls into the calls that are native to

theback-end database.

Catalogplug-in

Thededuplication database stores and manages the metadata of

deduplicatedfiles. The metadata includes a unique fingerprint

thatidentifies the file’s content. The metadata also includes

informationabout the file such as its owner, where it resides on

aclient, when it was created, and other information.

NetBackupuses the PostgresSQL database for the deduplication

database.

Youcan use the NetBackup bpps command to view the database

process(postgres).

Thededuplication database is separate from the NetBackup

catalog.The NetBackup catalog maintains the usual NetBackup

backupimage information.

OnWindows systems, NetBackup creates a purediskdbuser

accountfor database management.
