ThePureDisk plug-in is the data interface to the

NetBackupDeduplication Engine on the deduplication

storageserver. The PureDisk plug-in does the following:

■Separatesthe file’s metadata from the file’s content.

■Deduplicatesthe content (separates files into

segments).

■Controlsthe data stream from NetBackup to the

NetBackupDeduplication Engine and vice versa.

ClientPureDiskplug-in

TheOpenStorage proxy server (nbostpxy) manages

controlcommunication with the media server.

ClientProxyserver

Theproxy plug-in manages control communication with

theclient.

MediaserverProxyplugin

Deduplication client backup process

Figure 9-4 shows the backup process of a client that deduplicates its own data.
