Staticelectricityprevention

Staticelectricity,althoughharmlesst oyou,canseriouslydamagecomputercomponentsandoptions.
Improperhandlingofstatic-sensitivepartscancausedamagetothepart.Whenyouunpackanoptionor
aCRU,donotopenthestatic-protectivepackagecontainingthepartuntiltheinstructionsdir ectyou
toinstallit.
WhenyouhandleoptionsorCRUs,orperformanyworkinsidethecomput er,takethefollowingprecautions
toavoidstatic-electricitydamage:
•Limityourmovement.Movementcancausestaticelectricitytobuilduparoundyou.
•Alwayshandlecomponentscarefully.Handleadapters,memorymodules,andothercircuitboardsbythe
edges.Nevertouchexposedcircuitry.
•Preventothersfromtouchingcomponents.
•Whenyouinstallastatic-sensitiveoptionorCRU,touchthestatic-protectivepackagecontainingthe
parttoametalexpansion-slotcoverorotherunpaintedmetalsurfaceonthecomputerforatleasttwo
seconds.Thisreducesstaticelectricityinthepackageandyourbody.
•Whenpossible,removethestatic-sensitivepartfromthestatic-protectivepackagingandinstallthepart
withoutsettingitdown.Whenthisisnotpossible,placethestatic-prot ectivepackagingonasmooth,
levelsurfaceandplacethepartonit.
•Donotplacethepartonthecomputercoverorothermetalsurface.

Disablingthebuilt-inbattery

BeforereplacinganyCRU,ensurethatyouhavedisabledthebuilt-inbatterybydoingthefollowing:
1.Turnoffyourcomput eranddisconnecttheacpoweradapt erandallcablesfromthecomputer.
2.Turnonyourcomput er.WhentheThinkPadlogoisdisplayed,pressF1toenterThinkPadSetup.
3.SelectCong➙Power.ThePowersubmenuisdisplayed.
4.SelectDisableBuilt-inBattery.
5.ClickY esintheSetupW arningwindow,thenthecomputerwillbeturnedoffautomatically.Waitthreeto
veminutestoletthecomputercool.
