Althoughyourcomputerisdesignedtofunctionreliablyinnormalworkenvironments,youneedtouse
commonsenseinhandlingit.Byfollowingtheseimportanttips,youwillgetthemostuseandenjoyment
outofyourcomputer.
Becarefulaboutwhereandhowyouwork
•Storepackingmaterialssafelyoutofthereachofchildrentopreventtheriskofsuffocationfromplastic
bags.
•Keepyourcomputerawayfrommagnets,activatedcellularphones,electricalappliances,orspeakers
(within13cmor5inches).
•Avoidsubjectingyourcomputertoextremetemperatures(below5°C/41°Forabove35°C/95°F).
•Someappliances,suchascertainportabledeskt opfansorairpuriers,canproducenegativeions.Ifa
computerisclosetosuchanappliance,andisexposedforanextendedtimetoaircontainingnegative
ions,itmightbecomeelectrostaticallycharged.Suchachargemightbedischargedthroughyourhands
whenyoutouchthekeyboardorotherpartsofthecomputer,orthroughconnectorsonI/Odevices
connectedtoit.Eventhoughthiskindofelectrostaticdischarge(ESD)istheopposit eofadischargefrom
yourbodyorclothingtothecomputer,itposesthesameriskofacomputermalfunction.
Yourcomputerisdesignedandmanufacturedtominimizeanyeffectsofelectrostaticcharge.Anelectrostatic
chargeaboveacertainlimit,however ,canincreasetheriskofESD .Ther efore,whenusingthecomputer
closetoanappliancethatcanproducenegativeions,givespecialattentiontothefollowing:
•Avoiddirectlyexposingyourcomput ertotheairfromanappliancethatcanproducenegativeions.
•Keepyourcomputerandperipheralsasfaraspossiblefromsuchanappliance.
•Whereverpossible,groundyourcomputertofacilitatesafeelectrostaticdischarge.
Note:Notallsuchappliancescauseasignicantelectrostaticcharge.
Begentlewithyourcomputer
•Avoidplacinganyobjects(includingpaper)betweenthedisplayandthekeyboardorthepalmrest.
•Yourcomputerdisplayisdesignedtobeopenedandusedatanangleslightlygreat erthan90degrees.
Donotopenthedisplaybeyond180degrees,asthismightdamagethecomputerhinge.
•Donotturnyourcomputeroverwhiletheacpoweradapterispluggedin.Thiscouldbreaktheadapter
plug.
Carryyourcomputerproperly
•Beforemovingyourcomputer,besuretoremoveanymedia,turnoffattacheddevices,anddisconnect
cordsandcables.
•Whenpickingupyouropencomputer,holditbythebottom.Donotpickuporholdyourcomput erby
thedisplay.
Handlestoragemediaanddrivesproperly
•Ifyourcomput ercomeswithanopticaldrive,donottouchthesurfaceofadiscorthelensonthetray .
•WaituntilyouheartheCDorDVDclickintothecenterpivotofthedrivebeforeclosingthetr ay.
•Wheninstallingtheharddiskdrive,mSA TAsolid-statedrive,followtheinstructionsshippedwithyour
hardware,andapplypressureonlywhereneededonthedevice.
•TurnoffyourcomputerifyouarereplacingtheharddiskdriveorthemSATAsolid-statedrive.
•Whenreplacingtheharddiskdrive,r eattachthecoverofthedriveslot.
