Spanning

Spanning

This menu allows you to view and configure the Spanning Tree Protocol.

Important: Do not change any of the SpanningTree Protocol parameters unless you are familiar with the IEEE 802.1d specification.

Table 5-17 describes each field in the Spanning menu.

ΔNote: For instructions on using this menu, see “Con- figuring Spanning Tree Parameters” on page 4-28.

For clarity, the IntraStack device is referred to as a “bridge” in this table.

Table 5-17 Spanning Menu

Field

Description

Protocol Specifica-

Read-only field; displays the IEEE protocol specifica-

tion

tion.

Priority

Configurable field; integer (from 0 - 65535) used to

determine the priority of the selected bridge during

Spanning Tree configuration.

The lower the value, the higher the bridge priority and

the more likely it will be selected as a forwarding

bridge (and possible, the root bridge) in a Spanning

Tree.

Designated Root

Read-only field; displays the unique bridge ID of the

current root bridge in the Spanning Tree. The ID is

based on its physical address and priority.

Designated Root is sometimes referred to as Root

Bridge ID.

Root Cost

Read-only field; displays the calculated distance from

the selected bridge to the root bridge, as seen from

the selected bridge.

Root Port

Read-only field; displays the port on the selected

bridge with the lowest cost route to the current root

bridge.

The port is determined during Spanning Tree configu-

ration. If the selected bridge is the root bridge, the

value is 0.
