Cleaning the Inside of the Machine (Bottom plate cleaning)
This section describes how to clean theinside ofthe machine. If the inside of the machine
becomes dirty,printed paper may get dirty, sowe recommend performing cleaning regularly.

Do not perform any other operation while the bottom plate isbeing cleaned.

Make sure that the machine isturned on, then remove any paper from the Rear

Tray.

Open the Paper Output Tray, then open the Output Tray Extension.

Fold asingle sheet of A4 orLetter-sized plain paper in halfwidthwise, and then

unfold the paper.

Load this and only this sheet of paper in the
Rear Tray with the open side to the front.
Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the left. For
details on the Paper Thickness Lever, refer to
"Inside" in "Main Components" ofthe User's Guide
on-screen manual.

5Perform bottom plate cleaning.

(1) Press the Menu button.
(2) Use the _ or P' button toselect Maintenance/
settings, then press the OK button.
The Maintenance/settings screen is
displayed.
(3) Use the _ or ) button to select Maintenance, (A) Load the paper after unfolding it.
then press the OK button.
The Maintenance screen is displayed.
(4) Use the A or v button to select Bottom plate cleaning, then press the OK button.
The confirmation screen is displayed.
(5) Use the ,L or v button to select Yes, then press the OK button.
The paper cleans the inside of the machine as itfeeds through the machine.
Check the folded part of the ejected paper. If it is smudged with ink, perform Bottom Plate
Cleaning again.
Ifthe problem is not resolved after performing cleaning again, the protrusions inside the machine
may bestained. Clean them according to instructions. See "Cleaning the Protrusions Insidethe
Machine" on page 55.
Note
When performing Bottom Plate Cleaning again, make sure to use anew piece of paper.
