To prevent touchscreen breakage, there should be a compliant gasket between the back of the touchscreen and the front of the display to allow for variation in the surfaces when assembling. A gap is also required between the touchscreen and the face of an LCD display to prevent damage to the display.

Unlike CRT's, plasma, EL, and backlit LCD displays may be a significant source of heat. The situation may be more significant if the unit is sealed. Any installation must avoid heat rise that exceeds the touchscreen specification.
