During bucking operations always stand on the uphill side so that the cut-off section of the log can not roll over you.

Sometimes it is impossible to avoid pinching (with just standard cutting techniques) or difficult to predict which way a log will settle when cut. To avoid pinching while cutting, re- view the following sections, Bucking withaWedgeandLogsUnderStress.

Bucking with a Wedge

If the wood diameter is large enough for you to insert a soft bucking wedge (E) without touching the chain, you should use the wedge to hold the cut open to preventpinching.

Si le diamètre du troAnc le permet, insérer un coin dans le trait de scie (E) sans toucher la tronçonneuse. Le coin servira à garder la fente ouverte, ce qui évitera que la chaîne se coince.

When bucking or felling with a wedge, it may be necessary to remove the SAFE- T-TIP® anti-kickback device to allow the bartobedrawnthroughthecut. Afterthe cut is complete, the tip should be rein- stalled immediately.
