Using the Focus Range Settings

The Focus MF button lets you toggle between four focus settings on the camera. The following table describes each of the focus range settings on the camera:

Setting Description

Normal Focus Use when taking pictures of subjects greater than

0.4m (15.75 in) away. Auto focus is limited to a range of 0.4 m (15.75 in) to infinity. This is the default focus setting.

Macro Use when taking close-up pictures of subjects less than 0.4 m (15.75 in) away. In this mode, the camera will not take a picture if it cannot find focus (the AF viewfinder light blinks green and the focus brackets turn red in the Live View screen). Auto focus has a distance range of 0.18 to 0.5 m (7 to 19.5 in).

Infinity Use when taking pictures of distant objects and

landscapes. Focus range is limited to a small region near infinity.

Manual Focus Allows you to step manually through the full focus

MF range. Use the buttons to adjust the focus. You can determine the focus by observing the image in the Live View screen and by a meter that appears on the left side of the Live View screen. For more information, see Hints on Using Manual Focus on page 40.
