General SCSI Configuration Understanding the PSFR-CP41 Configuration
General SCSI Configuration
The PSFR-CP41 appears on the SCSI busas a single initiator. The default
initiatorID is 7, and can be set via configuration to any valid SCSI address. No
other deviceson the SCSI bus may use this address.
The PSFR-CP41 providesthe capability to reset the SCSI bus during the boot
cycle. This allows the devices on the SCSI bus to be in a known state. Config-
urationallows this feature to be enabled or disabled. This feature is enabled in
the defaultconfiguration. Configurations using multiple initiators, changers, or
other devicesthat have long reset cycles, or are adversely affected by bus
resets, shoulddisable this feature.
ThePSFR-CP41 negotiates for the maximum values for transfer ratesand data
width on the SCSI bus.If an attached device does not allow the full rates, the
unit willuse the rates negotiated for that device. Negotiation is on a device
specificbasis, so the unit can support a mix of device types on the same bus.
Fibre Channel Host to SCSITarget Configuration
This section describesthe c onfigurationof the PSFR-CP41 when acting as a
targetto a Fibre Channel Initiator, passing FCP requests through to SCSI target
devices.
This is configuredas the default, using soft addressing on the Fibre Channel
loop and auto addressing forthe target device mapping. Auto addressing is
described further in this section.
The PSFR-CP41 automaticallydetects if it is connected to a loop or a switch,
and willuse the appropr iate typew ithout further configuration.
