Optional networking connections

If your router is not within cable reach of the Slingbox, you can:

Purchase a longer Ethernet cable.

Use wall-plug bridges, which use your existing in-home electrical outlets to connect devices to your network. These wall-plug devices—also known as Home- Plug or Powerline bridges—are easy to set up and use with the Slingbox, requiring no new wires. Wall-plug bridges provide better performance than wireless networking.

Use a wireless bridge to connect your Slingbox to a wireless network. See “Connecting the Slingbox to a wireless network” on page 82.

Tip: Go to www.slingmedia.com/support for a list of recommended routers, wall-plug bridges and wireless bridges.

Make sure to follow the installation instructions that come with the equipment you purchase.

Using wall-plug bridges

If you don’t have an Ethernet jack near your TV, an easy option is to use a pair of wall-plug bridges, which use your existing in-home electrical outlets to connect the Slingbox to your network. You’ll need two bridges: connect one to your Slingbox and the other to your router, as shown.

Important: For optimal performance, it is strongly recommended that you connect the bridges directly to a wall outlet. Do not connect them to a power strip or extension cord.
