DOWNLOAD CHARACTERS

Withthisprinteryoucancreatenewcharactersandsymbols,downloadtheir

dotdata,and havethemprintedinplace ofselectedcharactersinthe regular

characterset.Charactersthatcanbegeneratedinthiswayrangefromsimple

but useful symbolslike the check mark through complex Chinese or

Japanesecharacters.

Regular characters are permanentlystored in the printer’s ROM, but

charactersyoudesign aredownloadedand storedin RAM foruse.

DESIGNING YOUR OWN DRAFT CHARACTERS

Designingand printingyour own characters has two requirements:first,

designingtheshapeofthe character,calculatingthedatanecessarytomake

the shape,and sendingthat data to the printer,and secondly,sending the

commandtoprintthe downloadedcharactersinsteadoftheregular charac-

ters.There are anumber of designconstraintsfor downloaddraft quality

characters:

●Thematrix orgrid on whichyou designthe charactersissix boxeswide

bynine boxeshigh.

●HorizontaUy,dotsmaybecenteredinabox,ormaystraddlealine, making

theactualcharactergrid 11dots wideby9dots high.Vertically,dotscan

onlybe centeredin abox. SeeFigure 5-1.
